TLDR
Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) is 18 km from central Izmir. The IZBAN commuter train runs every 25 minutes and costs under 50 TL, reaching Alsancak in about 35 minutes. A Havas shuttle bus is EUR 5 to 7 and takes 40 to 50 minutes. A metered taxi is EUR 25 to 35. A pre-booked private transfer is EUR 35 to 45. For Cesme, Alacati or Kusadasi, a private transfer is the only realistic option.
This guide walks through all four options, what they include, and which to pick for your arrival.
Insider Tip
Arriving after 23:00? Skip everything except a pre-booked private transfer. The IZBAN runs until around 00:20 from ADB but handles are scarce for heavy bags and the Havas last bus leaves earlier. Metered taxis at midnight are the single most common cause of a bad first evening in Izmir. Book the transfer before you fly.
Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport sits on the coast south of the city, close to the suburb of Gaziemir. It serves scheduled flights from most major European hubs, seasonal charter traffic in summer, and domestic Turkish Airlines and Pegasus services to Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya. International arrivals use Terminal 1. Domestic use Terminal 2. The two are a 4-minute walk apart.
Option 1: IZBAN Commuter Train
The cheapest, most reliable, and surprisingly popular option. IZBAN is the local suburban rail network. The station sits under the terminal building, a 6-minute walk from international arrivals with signs in English.
- Price: Under 50 TL one way in 2026 (about EUR 1.40). Pay by contactless card at the turnstile or buy a paper ticket at the machine.
- Time: Roughly 35 minutes to Alsancak station in central Izmir. 20 minutes to Halkapinar for metro changes.
- Frequency: Every 25 to 30 minutes between 06:00 and 00:20.
- Ends at: Alsancak (for central hotels), Halkapinar (for metro), or continues north to Aliaga.
Trade-offs: trains get full at commuter times (07:00 to 09:00 and 17:00 to 19:00). Heavy bags are awkward. From Alsancak station to most central hotels is a 5 to 15 minute walk. If you have a stroller or two suitcases each, it is worth the extra EUR 30 for a car.
Best for: solo travellers, light packers, budget backpackers, anyone who enjoys a smooth transfer after a short-haul flight.

Option 2: Havas Shuttle Bus
Havas is the long-established airport shuttle operator in Turkey. Coaches leave ADB roughly every 30 minutes and run to two central terminals in Izmir.
- Price: Around 250 TL in 2026 (EUR 5 to 7). Pay on the bus, card or cash.
- Time: 40 to 50 minutes to Alsancak depending on traffic.
- Frequency: Every 30 minutes between 04:00 and 23:30 approximately.
- Ends at: Montrö Meydani (Alsancak) and a second stop at Ucyol. Neither is on the Kordon seafront so you will walk or taxi the last 500 m to most hotels.
Best for: budget travellers with moderate luggage, late-morning or early-afternoon arrivals. Less comfortable than IZBAN because the road route picks up city-centre traffic.
“Cultural vibes, shop at reasonable prices. Use cash instead of cards for better deals. You can find everything there.”
Option 3: Metered Taxi
The airport taxi rank is directly outside Terminal 1 arrivals. The fleet is mostly yellow saloons with clear meter boxes.
- Price: Around 800 to 1,100 TL in 2026 to central Izmir (EUR 25 to 35). Night tariff applies 22:00 to 06:00, about 50 percent higher.
- Time: 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.
- Watch for: Insist on the meter. Refuse a flat-rate offer unless you know the market rate. Newer saloons with modern meters are usually fine. Older cars sometimes tell you the meter is broken, a well-known tell. Use a different car.
Best for: last-minute arrivals, travellers with standard luggage, anyone going to a central address where the driver will know the street.
Option 4: Pre-booked Private Transfer
A driver with your name on a card meets you in the arrivals hall. Fixed price agreed before you fly. The comfortable option for couples, families, and anyone arriving late.
- To central Izmir: EUR 35 to 45 for a saloon. EUR 55 to 75 for a minivan.
- To Selcuk or Kusadasi: EUR 80 to 110 saloon, 1 hour drive.
- To Cesme or Alacati: EUR 70 to 95 saloon, 45 minute drive.
- To Ozdere or Gumuldur: EUR 55 to 75 saloon, 40 minute drive.

Which One to Pick
- Going to Alsancak or Kordon, daytime arrival, light bags: IZBAN train. Cheapest and quickest after you allow the walk.
- Going to Konak or a city hotel, with two suitcases: Pre-booked private transfer.
- Late night arrival (after 22:00): Pre-booked private transfer. Everything else gets harder after dark.
- Going to Cesme, Alacati, Selcuk, Kusadasi or Ozdere: Private transfer. The alternatives are all multi-leg and awkward.
- Solo traveller on a budget: IZBAN for the city, Havas then local bus for the coast.
