Airport (ADB)
Real journey times to every town in this guide, plus the trade-offs between transfer, taxi, and hire car.
The basics
Adnan Menderes (ADB), 18 km south of Izmir
Almost every international visitor lands at ADB. The airport sits between Izmir city and Selcuk, which makes it convenient for both ends of the region. Below are realistic door-to-door times and what each route actually costs.
How long it takes
From ADB to your hotel
Real journey times by private transfer in normal traffic.
| Destination | Distance | Transfer | Taxi | Bus / Train |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Izmir City Centre | 20 km | 30 min | 40 min | 40 min (Havas) |
| Selcuk | 50 km | 50 min | 70 min | 90 min (train) |
| Cesme | 110 km | 90 min | 120 min | 120 min (Havas) |
| Ozdere | 40 km | 45 min | 60 min | No direct |
| Gumuldur | 40 km | 45 min | 60 min | No direct |
| Balcova | 25 km | 30 min | 45 min | 45 min |

Which option
Transfer beats taxi most of the time
A pre-booked transfer is usually 10-15% cheaper than a metered taxi from the rank, includes a driver who speaks some English, and a fixed price you know before you fly. Hire car only makes sense if you are doing multiple bases or driving to Pergamon.
- Booked transfer: fixed price, name board, no haggling
- Taxi: faster off the rank, can negotiate a fixed fare
- Hire car: only if you are doing multiple bases
- Havas bus: cheap; only direct to Izmir centre and Cesme
- Train (Izban): cheap; useful for Selcuk and Izmir centre
